Happy Halloween SOMA people!

Hello SOMA nation,

I hope you all enjoyed the fall and are looking forward to starting the winter months when most of us will be training hard in preparation for the spring season.  Below is a bit of news and some information on upcoming events.  It would be great to see some of you do one or more of the upcoming events in 2019 and 2020.  I know many of us plan to go to Bend in December for the COMA All-Around meet.  Let’s get a good group of SOMA people together there, as it is always a fun event and Bend is a fun town!

Connie Wilson swims GREAT at Huntsman World Senior Games in Utah

In only her third Masters swim meet, the Huntsman World Senior Games, running from October 9-11, Connie swam great!  She finished 4th in the 400 free, just out of medal contention.  However, Connie was able to bring home hardware in the 200, 800, and 1500 freestyle events, taking 3rd in each event.  She has made great progress since her first two meets, being able to start from the blocks and do flip turns in all events at this meet.  Great job, Connie!   Way to represent SOMA

3000/6000 ePostal swims

The annual 3000/6000 ePostal swims are underway.  I know a few of you have already done your swims this year.  Congratulations and well done!

The 3000 ePostal is the shortest of the 5 ePostal swims offered by USMS each year and most everyone should be able to finish in an hour or less, so plan do this one as part of your practice sometime between now and November 15th.  I will happily time anyone who wants to do either distance (3000 or 6000) at Superior Athletic Club.  Contact me to arrange a time and day!  More information about the two fall ePostal swims can be found here:https://www.clubassistant.com/club/meet_information.cfm?c=1287&smid=10720

Ralph Mohr will time anyone over on the southern coast in the Mingus Pool.  Contact him to arrange a day and time: rmohr1565@charter.net

Two-mile ePostal relay

Four of us did this event last year at Superior and we already have plans to do it again.  It really is a fun and challenging event to do together!  Below is more information from the event host…

Tired of all those long-distance postal swims? Hungry for an event that won’t take half a day to finish? The Postal 2-Mile Relay is a sprint event where you and one, two, or three other swimmers swim 100 yards (or meters) in rotation until reaching 3600 yards (or meters).

4 swimmer relay swims 9 x 100
3 swimmer relay swims 12 x 100
2 swimmer relay swims 18 x100

You can go off the blocks, dive off the side of the pool, or start in the water. We just recommend you have a ladder close by. This event can even be done in a meter pool (don’t worry, we’ll do the converting of the times for you).

Swim your relay(s) by November 30 and be sure your entries are submitted by December 10, 2019. You can be on as many relays as you would like.

For all the event details, including rules, cost, official event split sheet, online entry link, t-shirt information, and past records (attached to this email), see here:
