Have you completed your 1-hour ePostal swim?

Hello SOMA swimmers!

I hope you all are enjoying the winter weather.  It’s been cold and snowy here in southern Oregon.  High school swim season is reaching its culmination with the State meet coming up this weekend on Friday and Saturday at the Tualatin Hills pool.  The team I coach, St. Mary’s in Medford, had a great District meet last weekend and were able to get all 15 of their swimmers to the State meet.  I’m very proud of them all for the hard work and dedication they’ve shown this season!  If you live in the Portland area, it should be a fun meet on Friday and Saturday if you have time to come watch.  Details and an event schedule can be found here:

Let me know if you are planning on coming so we can connect!

Below are a couple of reminders for upcoming Masters events.

ONE-HOUR ePOSTAL SWIM

A number of us have completed the 1-hour swim already.  Here’s a list of SOMA swimmers who I know have done it along with their age and the yardage they swam:
Uwe Britsch (63) = 4125
Leah Harris (34) = 3910
Willard Lamb (97!) = 2850
Matt Miller (42) = 5260
Lisa Ross (52) = 4090

I timed Lisa and Leah this morning at Superior.  This was Lisa’s first time doing the hour swim (it is her first time registering as a Masters swimmer as well) and she had a great swim in some very warm water at Superior this morning going over 4000 yards.  Very impressive, Lisa!  And Leah was able to better her yardage from last year by nearly 200 yards.  Wow!  Congrats you both of you!!

For those of you unfamiliar with the 1-hour swim, it is an annual event that can be done in any pool.  After swimming, you can register for the event by entering the yardage you swam.  More details of the event can be found here:https://www.clubassistant.com/club/meet_information.cfm?c=1308&smid=10953

I believe we will have at least a few more people do the 1-hour swim in the next few weeks including Frank Philipps, Dan Kirkland, Barry Fasbender, and Jeff Piette.  Please email me to let me know your results after you do it.
I will time anyone at Superior who wishes to do it.  It must be done before the end of February.  SOMA and Oregon should be well represented in the results, so be sure to get yours done to support the team!

REMINDER ABOUT OMS ASSOCIATION CHAMPS (Oregon Masters State Champs)

This is THE target spring meet for most of us.  This year Tualatin Hills will host and the event will be held May 17-19.  This is the one short course meet each year where SOMA can swim and place as a team (at all other meets, everyone in Oregon swims as one team).  Please plan to attend this meet!  We had a blast last year and I expect this year to be just as fun or even more fun!!

OK, that’s all for now.  I hope that you all get your 1-hour swim done and continue to work hard in preparation for the OMS Association Champs!
